Superdrive update 2.1
Guest Apr 28 Easiest way to find out whether you need the update is to run it. If your drive does need it, then the alteration will proceed. Apple seems to limit applicability to certain eMacs and G5s.
It's a lot easier than using Apples's method. Can somebody with one of the G5s mentioned tell me what SuperDrive this is updating? Is it the Pioneer DVR? Can't seem to find any sites specifying what specific vendor drive this firmware is for Apple is so misleading when it comes out with these updates. They should just specify which brand of product they are updating and make it universal. There are a lot of us who have installed various Pioneer branded products into our macs who would like current firmware updates that work with our macs.
I've been able to flash the first two with the current Pioneer PC firmware using a third-party flashing utility thanks Las Vegas , but no update has been available for the DVR as of this writing. Just thought this firmware may be the one I'm looking for.
However, knowing Apple, it probably won't run unless the drive is actually installed in a G5 or eMac. Way to go Apple! Am I going to get dual layer burning now out of my Pioneer? Jul 5, PM in response to gilligan In response to gilligan The same thing happened to me as well, except the superdrive firmware update 2.
I've rebooted three times, including once into Safe Boot mode. No luck. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly" so it can't find my superdrive either. The keyboard eject button doesn't work, and the eject button in iTunes doesn't eject the blank CD I put in. Reply Helpful Thread reply - more options Link to this Post.

Jul 5, PM in response to Dale Witte In response to Dale Witte If what i've been reading on other posts about this topic is correct, some people were able to correctly install the superdrive firmware update 2.
I'm wondering if the issue is connected to the nearly simultaneous installation of the Audio Update 1. If this was the case keep in mind, I'm speculating then when my MBP restarted yesterday the firmware for the superdrive was corrupted by a partial installation and that is why iTunes and System Profiler were unable to find it.
I'm still looking into this. User profile for user: henrus henrus. Jul 5, PM in response to gilligan In response to gilligan my problem is slightly different. If i try to close the lid, the computer keeps whirring up the Superdrive in some endless loop until the battery dies and the laptop gets extremely hot in the process. Doing so may damage your SuperDrive.

That did it for me. Click to expand Joined Jul 4, Messages 1 Reaction score 0 Points 1. Joined Mar 4, Messages Reaction score 5 Points Pontoon you should probably make a new thread for your problem. I had the same problem with the firmware update at startup. This randomness just doesn't make sense and still leaves a bitter after taste when Apple still refuse to acknowledge the issues raised on these forums.
With your instructions, I was able to successfully run the flash utility. And although my drive now attempts to spin slightly when I put a CD or DVD in it, it still fails to read and spits it out, just as before. It was a good try, but it just didn't work. I need to continue getting on Apple to fix this thing. Unfortunately, my computer is out of warranty. Like others, I now have this expensive, 1-year-old computer that can't even burn or play a simple CD.
User profile for user: arylaarsdam arylaarsdam. Looks like I need to get a new drive. I do not feel like I should have to pay to replace my drive or pay for service on this computer when it was working just fine without this software update. This is crazy. I'm thinking a good old class-action lawsuit is in order since they refuse to stand behind their products and the fact that it was their software update that jacked up my now out of warranty computer.
Seems convenient to me that they can mess up my computer and then not stand behind fixing it. I used to be a loyal apple customer since the mid's, but I guess they would rather have a dissatisfied customer and get more of my money than a satisfied customer which would allow them to get much more of my money down the road.
This is a horrible business practice and I can't believe Apple would do this. I guess I have to get a new drive altogether, but am worried that that will not even work.
Does anyone know if putting a new drive in will actually solve this issue, or because that CRAP software is on my computer will the new drive just act the same way? Any insight to this would be great. User profile for user: addo. Leopard is hardly ready for prime-time.
The inability to simply burn removable media is unacceptable in this day and age. I understand pro app incompatibilities and inconsistencies, but this? Forget it. User profile for user: m. Jan 21, PM in response to Hemant Kamat In response to Hemant Kamat Help, I'm having a similar problem but do not want to make it worse since mine is slightly different.
I get the pop up error every time I start up, but it seems to be working fine. I have not tried to burn anything recently though. The main problem is on my Windows side. I'm running the latest Bootcamp beta version 1. How do I fix this? Please tell me I do not have to delete my partition and start all over again, I could but it's just a pain, and it doesn't solve the problem on my Mac side.
Any suggestions?? User profile for user: Wally Wells Wally Wells.
